After the hurricane - writing response

AFTER THE HURRICANE – Winslow Homer, 1899
Story by: Shazarna Harvey
The boat ripped apart from side to side, ramming into the solid sand.
The sky’s deep, dark world has locked up the sun in its dull prison, poisoning all its rays.
The water slowly calms down from Sandy’s wreck; leaving the young explorer stone cold from being pounded into the rock hard sand. An innocent man ruined.
All he wanted was to check out a new island but Sandy took everything and chucked it in the bin, her furious waves broke a strong man

Reading response

One day I went fishing with my sister at Snells Beach. I caught two baby snappers and my sister caught two as well. I ate the fish later that day for lunch in a toasty. Yumm!!! J

Success story

My Abseiling Challenge
Click goes the carribina and I start climbing; step by step goes by. Am I going to fall? Am I going to slip? All these thoughts go through my head.
As I stumbled to the top of the climbing wall, Treana (the Camp Columba instructor) yelled “Wasn’t that fun? Now just slide down. Don’t worry!”
As I started sliding she told me the weirdest joke I’ve ever heard, probably to distract me, but it was NOT working!
Now all I could hear was cheering from my awesome team-mates “You’re almost down!” and “Good work!”
I was about to look down when Treana yelled” Can you do a jump?”
I yelled “Ahh, maybe?” I jumped a little, noticing that I felt like I was on a bungee… BOING!’. I slipped and slid all the way until the last part of the wall. Just then I noticed that I was shivering like a chihuahua (imagine that!)
My awesome teacher said “How was that?”
“Awesome and soo scary!” I replied as I handed over the carribina to Rhianna. “Good luck” we all yelled to her.

2012 Speech

I chose this topic because I want to tell people about my dream.

I am proud of the way I spoke because I think I spoke quite fluently.

I still need to improve on my eye contact, the only reason was that i needed to practice more so i knew my speech more and did not have to look at the speech cards non stop!

My Holiday

The best thing about my holiday was going jet skiing with my sister Eloise up in Auckland.
